analog multimeter problem

Hi all
I have an analog multimeter which is suffering from static charge influence on the needle.
it seems that the special coating on the front transparent plastic is gone.
does anyone know any king of material or coating to fix this problem?
I tried graphite as thin coating but it failed

Your help is much appreciated .
i thought about this before but i hesitated since isopropyl alcholol might melt the transparent plastic .
i think ill follow your suggestion after all and try a little bit on the edge of plastic before applying it to the whole .
